About This Product
Maharashtra Safflower Seeds
Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius), called Kusumba in India, is a commercially versatile crop — the seeds yield a high-quality edible oil available in two distinct fatty acid profiles, and the vivid orange-red petals are used as an affordable natural food colourant (keshar substitute). India is among the world's top safflower producers, with Maharashtra being the primary growing state.
Two key safflower seed varieties are commercially available: High-oleic safflower (75%+ oleic acid) — a premium cooking oil with excellent heat stability, comparable to olive oil; and High-linoleic safflower (75%+ linoleic acid, Omega-6) — used for cooking oil, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications. PAX Herbal supplies both varieties machine-cleaned with 28–34% oil content tested per batch. Safflower petals (natural orange-yellow food colour) are available separately.
