About This Product

Kerala Cinnamon

Cinnamon is one of the world's oldest and most beloved spices — used in food, pharmaceuticals and fragrance for over 4,000 years. Two commercially important types are available: True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum, also called Ceylon cinnamon) — native to Sri Lanka and cultivated in Kerala — characterised by its delicate, sweet flavour, thin layers and low coumarin content. And Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) — bolder, more pungent and the type most commonly sold as "cinnamon" in the US market.

PAX Herbal supplies both types in quills (various grades), quillings, featherings and powder. Volatile oil content and eugenol percentage are tested per batch. For EU market buyers, coumarin content is specified — true cinnamon has very low coumarin (EU-compliant for daily use), making it the preferred choice for European food manufacturers.

Common Questions

Buyer FAQs

True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) has thin, delicate, multi-layered quills with a sweeter, more complex flavour and very low coumarin content — it is the EU-preferred type for daily food use. Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) has thick, single-layer quills with a bolder, more pungent flavour and significantly higher coumarin — it dominates the US market but is restricted in the EU for daily-use products.
Coumarin is a naturally occurring compound found in high levels in cassia cinnamon. The EU restricts coumarin in foods due to potential liver toxicity at high intake levels. True Ceylon cinnamon has negligible coumarin content (<0.01%) and is not subject to these restrictions — making it the mandatory choice for EU market compliance.
We supply C5 Special (finest, most tightly rolled — premium retail), C4 (standard quill — most common food processing grade), M4 (mixed grade), M5 Special (medium quality) and quillings (broken pieces — used for extraction and oil).
MOQ is 500 kg for quills and powder. Sample quantities available for evaluation.
