About This Extract

AKBA-Standardised Boswellia Extract

Boswellia extract (Boswellia serrata), known as Indian Frankincense or Shallaki, is one of the most clinically validated natural anti-inflammatory ingredients globally. The active compounds are boswellic acids — a family of pentacyclic triterpenoids — with the most potent being AKBA (Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), which specifically inhibits the 5-LOX enzyme, blocking leukotriene synthesis and reducing inflammatory cascades.

PAX Herbal supplies boswellia gum resin extract standardised to total boswellic acids 65%+ and AKBA 10% — the industry benchmark specifications for joint health and anti-inflammatory supplement formulations. The extract is produced from high-resin Boswellia serrata gum from Rajasthan using a solvent extraction and purification process.

We supply to joint health supplement manufacturers, sports recovery brands, anti-inflammatory nutraceutical companies and pharmaceutical formulators across North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Both standard (AKBA 10%) and premium (AKBA 20%) grades are available.

Common Questions

Buyer FAQs

AKBA (Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid) is the most potent of the boswellic acids — it is the only boswellic acid that directly and specifically inhibits 5-LOX (5-lipoxygenase), the enzyme responsible for leukotriene production and inflammatory cascade initiation. Higher AKBA content = more potent anti-inflammatory activity. It is present in very low concentrations in raw resin, making AKBA-enriched extracts significantly more effective per gram.
β-Boswellic acid is a pro-inflammatory compound found in boswellia resin that can counteract some of the beneficial anti-inflammatory effects of AKBA. Some premium formulations (notably Aflapin) specify reduced β-boswellic acid content. PAX Herbal can supply a low-β-BA grade on request.
Clinical studies typically use 100–500mg of boswellia extract standardised to 65%+ boswellic acids and 10%+ AKBA per day. Studies on osteoarthritis using Aflapin (AKBA-enriched) show significant results at 100mg per day.
MOQ is 5 kg. Sample quantities (50–100g) are available for formulation testing.
