About This Product

Kashmir Kesar

Saffron (Crocus sativus), called Kesar in India, is the world's most expensive spice by weight — each flower produces only three stigmas, all hand-harvested during a brief autumn flowering. Kashmir saffron, grown in the Pampore region of the Kashmir Valley, is globally recognised as one of the finest origins — producing stigmas with exceptional crocin content (colour), picrocrocin content (bitterness) and safranal (aroma).

PAX Herbal supplies Mongra grade (all-red stigmas, highest quality — only the deep red part, no yellow style attached) and Lachha grade (stigmas with a small portion of yellow style attached — the most common commercial grade). All saffron is tested to ISO 3632 Category I specifications for crocin (colour), picrocrocin (bitterness) and safranal (aroma). Properly sealed in airtight, light-proof packaging to preserve potency.

We supply to culinary importers, pharmaceutical companies, high-value nutraceutical brands, food manufacturers and food service buyers across the Middle East, Europe, USA and Japan.

Common Questions

Buyer FAQs

We use ISO 3632 spectrophotometric testing to measure crocin (colour), picrocrocin (bitterness) and safranal (aroma) content. A Certificate of Analysis and Certificate of Authenticity are provided with every shipment. Kashmir origin is documented. We do not supply adulterated or counterfeit saffron.
Mongra (also spelled Mogra) consists of pure deep-red stigmas only — the yellow style is completely removed. It is the finest and most potent grade. Lachha grade includes the stigmas with a short section of the yellow style attached — it is the standard premium commercial grade with slightly lower colour intensity per gram weight.
Crocin is the carotenoid compound responsible for saffron's colour and is measured in ISO absorbance units. ISO 3632 Category I requires a minimum of 190 absorbance units (equivalent to 85+ in the PAX reporting scale). Higher crocin = deeper colour, more potency per gram and higher value.
MOQ is 100 grams. Saffron is sold in small quantities due to its high value. Larger volume pricing (500g, 1kg+) is available for regular buyers.
