About This Product

Rajasthan Ajwain Seeds

Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi), also known as carom seeds or Bishop's Weed, is one of India's most characteristically pungent spices — a small, ridged seed with an intensely aromatic, thyme-like fragrance. Rajasthan is the principal growing region, producing ajwain with naturally high volatile oil content (3.5%+) dominated by thymol (35%+).

PAX Herbal supplies machine-cleaned whole ajwain seeds and ajwain powder. Volatile oil and thymol content are tested per batch. The essential oil (extracted separately) is a major commercial product used in pharmaceutical cough formulations, antifungal preparations and flavour industry applications. Both food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade material is available.

Ajwain is also a significant digestive herb in Ayurveda — used in antiflatulence and digestive preparations. We supply to food manufacturers, pharma companies, essential oil distillers and Ayurvedic formulators across India, Europe and the Middle East.

Common Questions

Buyer FAQs

Ajwain and thyme both contain thymol as their primary aromatic compound — which is why they smell remarkably similar. However, ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi) is a different plant entirely — a member of the umbelliferae family native to India and the Middle East. Its seed has a much more intense, concentrated aroma than thyme leaves.
Thymol is a natural monoterpene phenol with proven antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is used in pharmaceutical antiseptic preparations, antifungal creams, cough syrups and dental antiseptics. Ajwain essential oil (35%+ thymol) is the most cost-effective natural thymol source.
Yes — ajwain, carom seeds and Bishop's Weed all refer to the same plant and seed. "Omam" is the Tamil name. The seeds are commonly confused with celery seeds or caraway due to visual similarity, but are distinct in aroma and composition.
